Lenten Challenge 2012

The Season of Lent, Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday (Feb 22- April 8), has always been a time where Christians have observed, with great devotion, the days of our Lord’s passion and resurrection. In our Book of Worship, we are invited to observe a Holy Lent by self-examination, penitence, prayer, fasting and almsgiving; and by reading and meditating on the Word of God.

Last year the Finance Team brought you the Lenten Sacrifice as a way to grow in generosity and this year the Finance Team has developed the Lenten Challenge as a way to grow in the area of giving, faith and discipline. One of the great disciplines of the church is that of giving and, in particular, taking the step of faith and trust to give 10% of our take-home pay to the ministry of the church.

The Finance Team wants to offer The Lenten Challenge as a way of spiritual growth for you and your family this Lent.

All we ask is that you consider giving in a new way for the month of March 2012. Would you and your family consider agreeing to the following?

During the month of March, 2012, I/We intend to give 10% of our take-home pay to my church. I/We will place our gift in the regular offering envelope whenever I/We get paid in March.

If you have questions or want to learn more about our Lenten Challenge, please visit the table outside the Parlor and pick up a copy of the "Seven Day Devotional, Practical Tips for Lifestyle Adjustments" and information about developing a spending plan.

If you are already giving 10% of your income, you might consider giving a greater percentage during the month of March or moving forward to giving 10% of your gross income for the month of March.

"Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way," says the LORD of Armies. "See if I won't open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings. Malachi 3:10(Good News Version)
